There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are
detestable to him:
- haughty eyes
- a lying tongue
- hands that shed innocent blood
- a heart that devises wicked schemes
- feet that are quick to rush into evil
- a false witness who pours out lies
- and a person who stirs up conflict in the community (Proverbs 6:16-19 NIV).
If you are reading and thinking- none of these apply to me then you could be guilty of the very first one - haughty eyes. What does a haughty eye mean?
Unfriendly and seeming to consider yourself
better than other people (Cambridge dictionary).
Blatantly and disdainfully proud: having
or showing an attitude of superiority and contempt for people or things
perceived to be inferior (Merriam-Webster dictionary).
A proud look [the spirit that makes one
overestimate himself and underestimate others] (Amplified Classic
bible). Putting others down while
considering yourself superior (The Passion Translation).
Enough said.
Let’s talk about a lying tongue or spreading lies
and rumours. (The Passion Translation) - do you tell the odd lie once in a
while? My brother, my sister you have to stop it. It is detestable to God. Fake
news, fake conspiracies and falsehoods- It has to stop.
2021 will be the year of speaking the truth. Anything that is false shouldn’t leave your mouth. You might be thinking- But I always tell the truth. When the King James Bible was published in 1611, it was a period when the main form of communication was your mouth. Fast forward to January 2021, we have another form of communication- the mobile phone. Your mobile phone is a communication tool that can be used to spread lies, spread falsehoods and propagate fake news and rumours.
Do you use your mobile phone to post ‘spread’ lies and rumours? When you send false reports, conspiracy theories, fake news it’s the same as communicating with your mouth. If it’s a lie, rumour- it is detestable to God.
Children
of God do not tell lies. And for those that tell lies, Jesus stated: For you
are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things
he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth,
because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his
character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. (Matthew 5:44 NLT). Yes, the word of God is the truth.
As from today, always strive to speak the truth
and say nothing but the truth so help you God.
