Could God be doing a new thing in the United Kingdom?

Is God doing a new thing in UK politics?

The bible states: “The past events have indeed happened. Now I declare new events; I announce them to you before they occur.” (Isaiah 42:9 Christian Standard Bible)

Honesty, integrity and SEX! Ok, maybe sex is too strong a word, what about moral values.

Sex is such a powerful word. It’s so powerful that it led to the downfall and resignation of the UK Prime Minister (PM).

Quick political summary:

Male Member of Parliament (MP) 1: convicted of sexual assault of a 15 year old boy. Steps down. By election- won by Labour.

Male MP 2: caught watching a porn video in parliament. Steps down. By election – won by Lib Dem.

Male MP 3: goes for a drink in a club. Drinks too much and starts groping men at the club. Forced to step down over sexual assault allegations. Subsequently transpires that the PM was aware of his groping idiosyncrasies.

If MP 3 had not visited the club that evening, the prime minister will still be PM today.

If God is doing a new thing in UK politics- honesty, integrity and morality have to be established. Godliness has to be established!

The bible states: The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; he guides it wherever he pleases. (Proverbs 21:1 NLT). Meaning: God can change a person’s mind to take a course of action.

MP 4: The former Health Minister was listening to a sermon by Reverend Les Isaac about the importance of integrity in politics. He meditates on the word from the man of God and thereafter he decides to resign. (Source: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62113401)

MP 4 hands in his resignation, followed by MP 5 (Chancellor of the Exchequer). Unprecedented, two influential cabinet ministers decide to resign on the same day around the same time. I repeat: The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; he guides it wherever he pleases.

Thereafter, 54 MPs resign. Ultimately, the PM is forced to step down and now the conservative party have to elect a new prime minister.

Honesty and integrity may have been the final trigger that caused the PM’s resignation but the antics of his backbenchers also facilitated his exit. These are the same MPs that will decide the next PM. May God help us.

In conclusion: We must pray for our MPs. We expect much from them but they are human and they may appear to be falling short of what we expect of them. The bible is clear: I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Saviour, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

11 MPs are now contesting to be the next PM. Watch out it could get contentious with a number of character assassinations. But we pray that the outcome will usher in a new era of godliness in our politics.

Shalom!
